Edu-can is a scholarship programme exclusive to children of cancer patients. Cancer affects not only the individual but the family as whole. It takes a toll on the psychological and physical aspect and more importantly financial strain on the family. So CBF provides scholarships to children of cancer patients from low income backgrounds. Scholarships worth 10,000/- are provided based on the academic performance of the students
Cancer treatment is quite expensive in our country and even though the government does provide free treatment; the after care, nutritional supplements and medicines do cost a lot. We at cross Blood foundation provide financial assistance for children with cancer for the aftercare and medical expenses which aids in their recovery.
Thalassemia, the dreadful blood disorder was first reported in India in 1938. India since then has been identified as the Thalassemia capital of the world with more than 40 million carriers and 10,000 Thalassemic births every year. But the level of awareness in India regarding this is poor, there are millions of people who do not even know that such a disorder exists. Awareness is the beginning of change and we at cross Blood Foundation strive to create change through conducting awareness programmes for school and college going individuals, in order to reduce the incidence of Thalassemia in the community and to instill empathy towards those living with the disease.
The only known cure for Thalassemia is Bone marrow (stem cell) transplantation, which is only possible in case of a viable donor. The drawback for this procedure is the huge expenses that it incurs, the surgery and after care costs around 25, 00, 000/- or more per patient. Cross Blood foundation helps in sourcing the required funds for patients who are eligible for surgery through crowd funding and other donors, thus helping in curing the disorder.
Thalassemia is not only a lifelong disease but also an expensive one. The treatment consists of monthly Blood transfusions and medications which costs around 7000/- per child. We at Cross Blood have taken up the medical expenses of children living with thalassemia and have been supporting them since our inception. This helps in lifting the burden from the family to a great extent.
We have a database of more than 10,000 donors who donate blood on an emergency basis, whenever there is a requirement. On an average we receive up to 10 requests per day.
We conduct about 3-4 camps per month in collaboration with Government Blood banks in the city. We collaborate with various corporates, school, colleges and churches for the same and contribute in balancing the Blood requirement and deficit in the city.
We conduct awareness on Blood donation, its importance and need. These programmes are usually accompanied by our Blood camps and this helps in busting the myths and apprehensions that people have about Blood donation thus increasing our Donor base.
